Wardens of Ether




Wardens of Ether is a dark fantasy Deck Building Roguelike.




Features

  • Use cards as attacks and abilities similar to Slay the Spire
  • Gain rewards after every fight and encounter
  • Rest at the camp site and use your camp actions to new cards and artifacts
  • Use corruption to your advantage and change card effects, but be careful not to die to it
  • Experiment with different effect interactions to build a powerful deck and defeat the boss





My Responsibilities


Below are some of the main tasks I was dealing with during my time on the project



1. Game Design
 



Game Design Responsibilities and Successes

  • Solved game design problems through changing card effects
  • Actively contributed in meetings concerning game design and direction
  • Discussed any game changes I was tasked with implementing by the lead game designer, mostly owning cards and artifacts feature changes
  • Thoroughly tested new and old mechanics so to better understand feel and balance of the game
  • Found game design solutions when given a lot of freedom with new feature implementations
  • Proactively suggested improvements for gameplay and workflow


2. Game Development
 



Game Development Responsibilities and Successes

  • Worked in C# and Unity Engine to update and implement features
  • Fixed a long-standing game-breaking bug as a first task on the project
  • Changing existing cards and artifacts
  • Creating new cards and artifacts
  • Implementing new features and animations (fireflies)
  • Many other minor and major bug fixes


3. Other
 



Other Responsibilities and Successes

  • Involved in marketing strategies and promotion through conventions and discords
  • Gathered and analysed feedback on different demo versions
  • Given feedback to changes concerning art, narrative and other segments of the game

Takeaways



  • Learned a lot about all aspets of how games are made
  • Grown accustomed to working in teams through many ups and downs
  • Improved on hard and soft skills through experience in a real environment, rather then making small portfolio projects
  • An extremely valuable experience, getting to know many great people
